Sierra Signs launches Virgin Galactic’s signage in the outer space and interior space at the new their new Aerospace Rocket Fabrication Facility adjacent to Mesa Gateway Airport.

From start to blast off, over an 8 month period the Sierra Signs’ crew produced and installed interior and exterior signage for the Virgin Galactic final assembly manufacturing facility which will produce its next generation of Delta class spaceships.

The facility’s massive building is capable of producing up to six spaceships per year. In late 2025, Virgin Galactic will commence revenue-generating payload flights, progressing to private astronaut flights in 2026. Virgin Galactic has selected various suppliers to build the spaceship’s major subassemblies and collaborated with Sierra Signs to manufacture and install their facility signage. The signage project was mission accomplished and included a payload of Exterior and Interior Building signs, Wayfinding signs, ADA signs, Banners, Wall Murals, Displays and more.

The Neon Garden is a vibrant outdoor event space at the renovated POST in Mesa, the city’s first post office constructed in 1936, which served as the central post office for nearly 50 years. Today, the 5,750 sq. ft. POST building has been newly renovated for event and celebration venues.

The POST landmark is more than a community gathering facility, it is a tribute to a bygone era of Mesa’s most notable businesses and their remarkable historic neon signs. Many of these signage legacies date from the 1940s through 1970s and once lined the city’s main roads along Main Street and Apache Boulevard, advertising motels, restaurants, bars, florists, and retail stores.

These iconic neon signs have been captured in time through recreations by Sierra Signs, partnering with the City of Mesa, architects, engineers and contractors. The Mesa Preservation Foundation. Sierra Signs reconstructed each sign preserving the original design character and restoring them using modern LED lighting technology.

Called the “Neon Garden”, located behind the POST at 26 N. Macdonald, the area is servings as a symbol of progress and renewal.
These iconic signs represent the Mid-Century era with one of the most spectacular signs, affectionately known as the “Diving Lady” as one of the last remaining animated neon signs in the Valley.

The restored historic signs include:

Bill Johnson's Big Apple - The western-themed restaurant sign stood at 950 E. Main St. from 1977 until 2018, four years after the restaurant closed. The sign was donated to the Mesa Preservation Foundation and is an homage to the legacy of Big Apple restaurants created by Bill and Gene Johnson.

Watson's Flowers - The 30-foot neon sign, created by legendary local sign maker Paul Millet, stood at the West Main Street flower shop from the late 1950s until it collapsed during a 2014 windstorm. It was stored flat for five years until the owners of Watson's donated it to the Mesa Preservation Foundation in 2019.

Dairy Queen - The iconic porcelain enamel neon sign, which includes an ice cream cone, was installed atop the building when it opened at 629 E. Main St. in 1949,. It operated in its full glory until the Dairy Queen closed in 2018 to make way for a redevelopment project.

Smiley Ford - The neon Ford sign was likely installed around 1960 when Smiley-Berge Motors, originally Smiley Motors, moved to 256 E. Main St. After R.C. Smiley retired in 1965, the dealership was renamed to Berge Ford.

Frontier Motel - The neon sign likely dates to the opening of the Frontier Motel at 1307 E. Main St. during the 1950s. By that decade, there were more than 60 motels along Main Street in Mesa. The Frontier was typical of that era with its "U"-shaped layout with parking in the center.

Diving Lady Replica - The original iconic 60-foot high sign was erected in 1960 to promote a new swimming pool at the Starlite Motel at 2710 E. Main St. A powerful microburst in October 2010 destroyed the sign. The Mesa Preservation Foundation began a fundraising campaign to rebuild the Diving Lady, which was relit in April 2013. The smaller replica at the Neon Garden pays homage to the sign which energized enthusiasts to begin "diving" into the project to save the Valley’s iconic neon signage.

Sierra Signs is proud to have been selected to construct and install these special signs as a means to reintroduce and preserve Mesa’s cultural past as we look forward into the City’s future.

Boeing is the world's largest aerospace company and leading manufacturer of commercial jetliners, defense aircraft, space and security systems. Boeing products and tailored services include commercial and military aircraft, satellites, weapons, electronic and defense systems, launch systems, advanced information and communication systems, and performance-based logistics and training.

Boeing also does many other things as well like empowering communities. Boeing strengthen community ties like with these sixteen large photographic murals of aviation and education themes have been placed on the walls of the McDowell Road underpass between Greenfield and Higley roads at Falcon Field Airport in Mesa.

Created and installed by Sierra Signs, the murals show aircraft from the 1940s to the present, employees and equipment from Boeing Aerospace Co. and MD Helicopters Inc., and students from Mesa Public Schools.

The Boeing facility is located in the heart of Falcon District, which is considered a high-tech hub for aerospace, defense, and advanced manufacturing processes. Some other aerospace companies stationed in the Falcon District are Northrop Grumman, Marsh Aviation, Nammo Defense Systems, and MD Helicopters.

The City of Phoenix again has partnered with Sierra Signs making several “dramatic improvements” at Piestewa Peak, the city’s busiest hiking mountain.

The towering monument sign serves as the gateway to Piestewa Peak, Phoenix Mountains Park and Recreation Area, and the Dreamy Draw Recreation Area. The monument sign marks the entrance to the diverse desert landscapes and miles of multi-use Piestewa Natural Trails.

Sierra Signs produced and installed the signage on the concrete monument, rusted iron monument signs, also producing wayfinding, trailheads and markings signs heat and critter warnings, as well as other information signage.

Most recently, Sierra Signs installed a new entry gate with large video screen for visitor information and updates for popular Sonoran Desert experiences.

Sierra worked with Thomas + Crowley Architects, the City of Phoenix Parks & Recreation to update park sign standards and with Valley Rain Construction in the construction of the monument.

Sierra Signs’ crew assembled and installed the 3-D replica of a life-sized Acrocanthosaurus dinosaur on the exterior of the Arizona Museum of Natural History building. The dinosaur was fabricated by a company from the Midwest and shipped in pieces. Sierra constructed the dinosaur piece-by-piece and installed it with brackets literally going through the building walls securing it from the inside of the museum.

The sculpture of the carnivorous dinosaur appears to be breaking out of the museum’s wall, leaving shattered masonry crumbling under her immense power as she makes her escape.

The dinosaur was created by Dimensional Innovations of Kansas City, Kansas to fabricate the animal to precise full-scale proportions and pose.

The delicate installation operation took three days to install at the museum located at 53 N. Macdonald in Mesa.

For a number of years Sierra Signs has had the privilege of working with many Valley Cities Parks and Recreation Departments, designing, manufacturing and installing signs at nearly every park, aquatic center, recreation center and preserve through the Valley. We adapted many new sign design elements with a textual and artistic explanations of park features and ecological benefits.

Sierra Signs has produced and installed a wide variety of environmentally conscious community signage including park information, rules, natural habitat, wayfinding maps, directional trails, gardens, flora and fauna identification, historic, warning and fun interactive signs.

The aesthetics and outstanding durability have made these signs a great choice for municipalities, schools, private parks and gardens.

Sierra Signs produced and installed the historic photographic murals on the Airport Traffic Control Tower and Hangers at Falcon Field.

Falcon Field was established in September 1941 as a military base during World War II to train British Royal Air Force and U.S. Army Air Corps pilots. In honor of all of the brave men and women who were worked and trained at the airport the facility now displays historic photographic wraps of the early days of Falcon Field.

Sierra Signs giant tower graphics brings an even greater awareness to the significance of air traffic controllers and pilots who are grateful for their magnificent and historic views of the tower and the pictorial contributions to aviation.

In addition “Art of the Airport Tower”, Sierra Signs also completed the monument sign outside of the airport terminal building at 4800 E. Falcon Drive.

Sierra Signs also created the monument and terminal interior signage for Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport located in the southeastern area of Mesa.

Sierra Signs stepped up to the plate to deliver a home run for Major League Baseball (MLB) spring training facilities. We manufactured and installed new monument and directional signage at the Cubs’ Stadium at Sloan Park in Mesa. The new signage is highly visible both day and night.

Our sports venue signage has consistently shown our creativity in design, fabrication and installation as exemplified by the gigantic Oakland A’s 15’ LED “A” logo sign at the at Mesa Hohokam Stadium.

Sierra Signs has fabricated and installed sports sidewalk, venue signs and interiors for the National Football League (NFL) Super Bowls at Cardinal Stadium in Glendale, and for the Arizona Cardinal’s at their Dining Hall and Training Facility.

Much like puzzle pieces, 4’ x 8’ sheets were precisely placed piece-by-piece to form an expansive and seamless 14’ x 52’ mosaic with Cardinals logo and text accented with red edges for a 3D look.

Sierra Signs celebrates 40 years in business and recognizes 100 years of Stewardship at South Mountain Preserve. We are proud to have created and installed graphics and displays at the preserve and at the newly remodeled South Mountain Visitor Center Museum Complex.

South Mountain Preserve is one of the largest municipally managed parks in the nation and consists of three mountain ranges - the Ma Ha Tauk, Gila and Guadalupe with more than 100 miles of trails for hiking. Sierra Signs is also proud to have produced and installed park entrance signage, monuments signs, marker signs, trail signs, learning/educational signs and misc.

The displays and wall graphics depict … the history, wildlife, trails and evolution of the mountain preserve.

Electronic Message Centers keep Mesa students, faculty and parents informed of events, class schedules, educational opportunities and more.
Sierra Signs is especially proud not only to have been selected to construct and install many of Mesa’s school digital messaging boards and signs, but also knowing that the messages empower each school from curriculum to events.

The LED messaging board enable schools to quickly convey a series of messages that easily be read day and night. Full-color and monochrome large and small digital LED messaging signs can be installed in monument signs, in gyms, stadiums, retail stores, restaurants and churches.

Sierra Signs custom-tailored each digital LED messaging sign and created each school’s 3D logos and graphics.

The Studios is a multimillion-dollar renovation of the former Mesa City Library is designed to bring local entrepreneurs and business leaders together with students to collaborate and share ideas in partnership with the City of Mesa as a shared workspace.

The Studios' building name is displayed prominently by an illuminated blade sign created by Sierra Signs who also created interior signage, including elevator signage and a large, illuminated neon wall sign highlighting the purposeful theme for the facility as, “Mesa Business Builder.”

The Studios is located in the heart of the City of Mesa next to the Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) Center, envisioned as a hub for leading-edge institutions to connect with startups and business incubators to grow new ideas and products.

This revolutionary concept blends downtown revitalization with many projects in partnership with Sierra Signs.

Sierra Signs has been working with Rainforest Plumbing & Air since 2009 and during that time the family-owned plumbing company has grown into one of the largest HVAC and plumbing services companies in the Valley.

When Rainforest moved into their new facility, the company’s initial request was for a complete business sign design package requiring unified branding across all physical touch points. The signage was designed to transform Rainforest’s   physical visual presence through a cohesive, multi-component brand strategy.

Sierra Signs handled the full design (supported by Rainforest staff) then moving the designs to a complete fabrication and installation project of high-impact signage—ranging from exterior, high-visibility signage to interior, branded wayfinding. Sierra Signs provided a seamless brand experience from the street to the interior office.

The centerpiece for the company’s corporate headquarters building sign is a large leaf sign illuminated with LED backlighting halo lit signs and monument signs. The brand is supported by the company icon– friendly, plumber monkey, known as Ryan, who is seen smiling and holding a wrench. Ryan proudly embellishes all Rainforest fleet vehicles wrapped by Sierra Signs expert team.

Rainforest is branded by wall logos in dual interior reception areas (one for guests and the other for employees), wall murals, cut-out logos, Ryan icon floor graphic, window frosting in employee areas, A-frames, vividly printed bollard covers and more, all to create an immersive environment for staff and clients.

Opening in 1929, the Biltmore Resort Hotel has maintained the hotel’s iconic block construction and related signage design for nearly 100 years. The famed hotel has become a landmark in Phoenix and architectural wonder with its mathematically proportioned rectangle pre-cast blocks used in construction which have become to be known as the "Biltmore Blocks." The blocks have a diverse geometric design to reflect a freshly cut palm tree and were made on site from desert sand.

Sierra Signs was for selected their over 40-year expertise to revive and replace the hotel’s monument signage in keeping with the iconic hotel’s historic Art Deco architectural look as a symbol of luxury and comfort.

In addition, Sierra Signs custom-wrapped the Biltmore Hotel’s Wonder Bus on a vintage Dodge truck now used for luxury celebrations, upscale venues and promotions. The wrapped bus is a charming footnote in the Biltmore Hotels’ history.

Bill Luke Auto Group Santan is part of the family-owned and operated auto business which has been serving Arizona since 1927.

The new location in Gilbert, Arizona, will serve customers throughout the East Valley, including Chandler, San Tan Valley, and surrounding areas.
Guided by a nearly century-long legacy, Bill Luke selected Sierra Signs to provide innovative design concepts.

Rockwell Ice Cream Company was inspired by the old- fashioned ice cream shops of America. The Rockwell Ice Cream Co., brand image incorporates legacy, history, family and the tradition of ice cream into a vintage look. The owners of the Gilbert San Tan Store wanted an exterior building sign, interior sign and menu board created in a vintage design.

The custom interior sign and menu design created an old- fashioned immersive aesthetic wood look. Sierra Signs incorporated various elements, including typography, color palate and period looking sign materials to establish an historical feel for their brand, and to bolster their brand equity among consumers.

One of the top 10 fastest growing new home communities in the nation brought imaginative and sustainable designs to life. With the help of Sierra Signs. The entry signs grab attention at the community entrance. Massive steel and aluminum builder directional signs are located throughout the 3,200-acre development to help home seekers find each of the different builder model complexes. The project is constantly growing as we continue to work on the community over a number of years.

Sierra Signs’ multi-year contract with Yavapai Community Colleges included rebranding the campuses at Prescott, Verde Valley and Sedona to increase the colleges branding presence and image. The signs were designed to highlight each colleges resources. The rebranding also included the signage for the Southwest Wine Center Viticulture and Enology winery and estate vineyard.

We installed a variety of signs including monument and building signage, directory and way-finding signs. As well as parking id’s, banners and interior signs.

Sierra Signs manufactured and installed signs at the Riparian Preserve and Park premier educational and recreational resource in Gilbert, Arizona. The signage included water resources, wildlife habitat, educational programs, and recreational opportunities. The signs were created to provide the best interpretative experience for all visitors.
